‘He’s such a great man’- Campbell County High School Principal Ben Foust

Retired Campbell County High School coach, director of athletics and assistant principal Jim Pierce by the field house named in his honor.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The refurbished Field House that sits atop The Hill at the Campbell County High Football Field was officially named the Jim Pierce Field House on Thursday afternoon. Pierce, now retired, was a coach, director of athletics and assistant principal at CCHS for 35 years; the longest tenured A-D in school history.

In the spring the Board of Education made the motion, and it was unanimously approved to name the Field House after Coach Pierce. “It is very fitting after his years of dedication to all student-athletes in Campbell County. His hard work does not go unnoticed by any of us, and we still talk about often “what would Jimmy Pierce do when a situation arises?,” said current Co-Athletic Director Olivia Lobertini.

A portion of the more than 50 attendees to Thursday’s ceremony are pictured here applauding Coach Jim Pierce inside the field house.

“It means a whole lot more to me than I can say in words. I am so thankful. I didn’t expect it. It was a complete surprise, but it does mean the world to me,” said Pierce.

Former Cougar Rick Parks

Several of Pierce’s former athletes attended and spoke. Rick Parks played on Pierce’s first basketball team during the inaugural season of Campbell County High School; one of the best teams in school history. Parks thanked and congratulated his former coach.

Melissa Davis is a former Lady Cougar.

Melissa Davis, who ran for Coach Pierce when he resurrected the school’s cross country program, thanked him for restarting the program. Davis was a multi-sport athlete at CCHS.

“It’s good. This is something he deserves to have, and I’m really proud of him with this. It feels good just looking up there and seeing his name up there; it’s really good,” said Braydon Graham, Pierce’s grandson who wears jersey 24 for the Cougar Football Team.

“This is a beautiful building that spans almost the entire length of the football field, and it will forever has his name on it. What a blessing that this is happening in his grandson Braydon Graham’s sophomore year, and he gets to run in and out of the field house almost everyday,” said Lobertini.

I guess what I really need to do is thank the good Lord that I am still here to receive this award,” said Pierce.
