JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- County Commissioners “officially” declared a vacancy for the 4th district position that has been left with the passing of longtime Commissioner Sue Nance.

County Commission Chairman Johnny Bruce asked for a motion if it was the pleasure of the body to fill the position next Monday night. Commissioner Goat Baird made the motion, which was approved unanimously.

County Attorney Joe Coker advised that “any person from the Fourth District can appear and nominate themselves for the vacant position, but only a commissioner can make an official nomination.”

Chairman Johnny Bruce spoke briefly about Commissioner Sue Nance.

“We lost the best person I have ever had the opportunity to work with,” Bruce said.

“If you had a question or needed to know something, you just went to Sue and she could probably tell you when it passed and who voted on it,” Bruce said.

He also said he could not make the motion as chairman, but that he would like to name the annex building after Sue Nance.

Commissioner Goat Baird made the motion, which was approved unanimously.

Bruce said it will also be voted on again on Monday night.

Chairman Bruce also spoke about Bertha Hatmaker from the health department who passed recently.

“We had a lady that worked at the health department, Bertha Hatmaker. I would like to name the health department building after Bertha,” Bruce said.

Commissioner Rusty Orick asked if he could carry that item as it was near and dear to his heart.

This was approved unanimously and will also be voted on again Monday night.

“Those were two ladies that gave a lot to Campbell County and a lot to the 4th district,” Bruce said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/12/2025-6AM)
