LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- La Follette Police Officer Aidyn Fudala recently responded to the complaint of an intoxicated male at the Red Roof Market, at the corner of Central and Indiana Avenues.
The patrolman arrived at the market at 8:07pm on Thursday, July 24. “I located Garry Wright sitting in the driver’s seat of a running white 1997 Chevrolet 1500 pick-up truck that was parked halfway on the parking lot and halfway on the sidewalk,” Officer Fudala stated in his police report.
Fudala made contact with Wright at the driver’s side window. An open 12-pack of beer between Wright’s feet and an open beer can sitting on the center floorboard, both with condensation still visible, were discovered based on the report from LPD.
“Wright stepped out of the truck, displayed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage and was unstable on his feet,” stated the officer in his report. Elsewhere in the report, it is detailed that Wright said “two” referencing how many alcoholic beverages he had consumed, and he went on to say he’d come from his house over to here, the Red Roof Market, to scratch off a couple of tickets, scratch off lottery tickets.
When asked if he would participate in a field sobriety test and answer questions, Wright allegedly refused, according to the police report. However, Wright did give both written and verbal consent for a blood sample, based on the officer’s narrative.
Wright told Fudala and Lt. Shane Tielman that he had a tightness in his chest. Fudala asked Wright if he would like to be seen medically, and Wright responded that he would. First responders with the La Follette Fire Department tended to Wright and determined he would benefit from being seen at the Tennova-La Follette Medical Center. Wright was transported to the hospital by Campbell EMS.
It was almost 9:30pm when Wright arrived at La Follette Medical Center where he was observed by medical personnel until his discharge at 11:12pm. During his time at LMC, blood was collected from Wright for his blood sample.
After Wright was discharged and cleared for transport to be booked into the Campbell County Jail by an LMC doctor, Wright was then taken to the jail.
Wright, 58, of 263 South Circle Drive-Caryville, was charged with DUI (4th offense) and license suspended/canceled/revoked. He appeared on Thursday in Campbell County General Sessions Court. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/01/2025-6AM)
