Grant dollars are expected to fund the lion’s share for Phase 2 of the park
CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- In a special called meeting on Thursday afternoon, the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted to move forward with Phase 2 of the all inclusive park located on the corner across from Shoney’s.
The estimated cost of the park is $827,000. This will include a basketball court, two pickleball courts, picnic shelter, restrooms, two dog parks, tables, benches, landscaping, fencing and lighting around the park. The town had previously allotted $77,000 for the project, but with rising costs the board voted to allocate another $127,686 for the project. The remainder of the funds will come from a grant.
During the session, the board also approved $2,190 repairs for a 2017 Dodge Charger for the police department and the purchase of two Kenwood radios for the fire department totaling $11,300.
Prior to the special called meeting, the board met with Angie Carrier with The Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) to discuss two open positions in the town. The first is the existing position of town recorder and a newly created position of town administrator. Carrier told the board it will need an ordinance to have a town administrator and presented the board with a sample ordinance. She also presented the board samples of job postings for the positions. Carrier suggested some of the qualifications for the administrator could be three to five years’ experience as an administrator or department head, a bachelor’s degree but preferably a master’s degree. She shared a possible timeline as well with the board. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-07/18/2025-6AM)
