Campbell “plays for four quarters”, according to assistant coach Caden Poston

By Clayton Carroll

CLINTON, TN (WLAF)-From Lockard Gymnasium at Clinton High School, the Cougars, on a two-game winning streak, faced off against Clinton.

This was a game that neither team, until late, had a clear advantage. Both teams delivered their fair share of blows, with the other responding immediately.

Luke Browning hit a deep three at the end of the first quarter to make the score 15-13 in favor of Clinton.

The Cougars would outscore the Dragons 21-9 in the second quarter, taking a 34-24 lead into the halftime break. Clinton, in the second half, would cut the Cougar lead down to four, with multiple chances to cut it even closer.

The Dragons’ effort would not be enough as the Cougars would close out a hard-fought, impressive 61-54 win.

Four Campbell County Cougars racked up double digits. Gavin Cox, the Mills Doors and More Player of the Game, led the Cougars’ scoring column with 15 points, most of which came from the paint. Luke Browning tallied twelve points. Jake Hatmaker scored 11 points. Will Croley totaled 10 points.  Keegan Nelson accounted for seven points. Gavin Owens scored six points. Brady Hatmaker played but did not find the scoring column.

Up next for Campbell County, the  4 and 2 Cougars travel to William Blount. The Govenors beat the Orange-and-Blue 62-59 in the opening game of the season.
