Campbell improves to 6 & 0
By Clayton Carroll
CLINTON, TN (WLAF)- On Tuesday, the Lady Cougars traveled to Don W. Lockard Gymnasium, also dubbed the “Donnie Dome” to battle an old foe. The Clinton Lady Dragons and the Lady Cougars tipped off for the first time since 2021.
From that opening tip-off, it was all Lady Cougars. At halftime, the Orange-and-Blue led 31-6.
Clinton would make a little run in the fourth quarter, but it was way too little way too late. When the horn sounded, the Lady Cougars left Clinton with a 50-26 victory.
Along with the stifling defense to which Campbell fans are accustomed, the Lady Cougars’ offense really shined, especially early. Saylor Hutcheson, the Mills Doors and More Player of the Game had a beyond impressive 18 points. She was one of three Lady Cougars in double digits. The other two, Bella Lester had 12, and Carley Kitts had 11. Also scoring for Campbell was Jayden Kitts with seven points, and Lacey Pemberton tacked on two points.
Coach Jason Kitts was pleased with his teams’ performance. However, he implied that it was far from perfect. Kitts said that “We’ll be better.” He was mostly proud of how unified the team played on Tuesday.
Campbell County, now 6 and 0 on the season, will have a day or two off before traveling to William Blount on Saturday for Round 2 with the Lady Governors. The Lady Cougars won the first contest 51-44 in the opening game of the season.
