Campbell Football goes from a five team region to an eight team region, Region 2

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The regions for high school football are set for the next three seasons, and Campbell County’s now in Region 2. Lenoir City and Oak Ridge leave Region 3, the Cougars last region, while Clinton and Karns move to Region 2 with Campbell. The other five teams in Region 2 are Central, Halls, Powell, West and William Blount. “It’s definitely a challenge and exciting at the same time,” said Campbell Head Coach Mark Pemberton.
Campbell Cougars (Jacksboro)
Clinton Dragons (Clinton)
Karns Beavers (Knoxville)
Knoxville Central Bobcats (Knoxville)
Knoxville Halls Red Devils (Knoxville)
Powell Panthers (Powell)
West Rebels (Knoxville)
William Blount Governors (Maryville)
Of the eight regions of 5-A football across Tennessee, Region 2 is the largest with eight teams. There is a total of forty-seven 5-A teams in Tennessee. “Four teams, Central, Halls, Powell and West, have won state titles in the past and are still very good teams,” said Pemberton. West has won the last two state titles, and West, Halls and Powell are still alive in the post season and play tonight.
In a region like this, you can figure yourself out in a hurry going against these teams, because they’re going to be good and well coached, according to Pemberton. “I told our team today that if you want to be the best, you’re gonna have to be the best. I look at it as a challenge, but it oughta be a motivator for our kids,” said Pemberton.
Larger crowds, home and away, will also be a perk to such a competitive region. “There’ll be really good crowds. Those teams will bring a good fan base with them and likewise when we travel to them,” said Pemberton.
Campbell’s region games, seven of them, will be set by the TSSAA, according to Pemberton. “We’ll probably have non-region games on Weeks 1 and 2 and then Week 4,” said Pemberton. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-11/15/2024-6AM)
