LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- “Our gym (La Follette Church of God) is literally full. As soon as we deliver a load of items, more supplies arrive. It’s been such an outpouring of compassion,” said Michael Dent, church pastor. Dent and his congregation hustled up a large load of supplies and delivered them to flood victims on the Monday following the previous Friday’s devastation. That was on September 30, and the donations and daily deliveries continue going on two months.

As the overwhelming amount of donations continues pouring in, Dent explains what they don’t need anymore. “We don’t need clothes nor water. The people we’re helping don’t have a place for clothes,” said the personable pastor. Now we’re helping to rebuild the structures of the houses that have been damaged to get them back in shape so people can live in them again, says Dent.

“We need finances, money, because we have food, bedding, water, cleaning supplies, toys and all that stuff. Just having the money to buy the building materials is what we need,” said Dent. Upwards of $15,000 have been recently spent buying materials, according to the pastor.

Walking room is at a premium inside the La Follette Church of God gym.

The speed at which builds, repairs and reconstruction of homes is happening has been most impressive. Dent explains that people have come from everywhere to help in the process including a man from Indonesia. “There some families that will even be back in their homes in time to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner together,” said Dent.
