JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- It was a special day on Friday at John Brown Gym as Saylor Hutcheson, one of six Campbell County High School Lady Cougar seniors, signed her letter of intent to be a Lady Tiger at Campbellsville University, an NAIA basketball powerhouse.

More than 50 people came out to CCHS to support Hutch including her AAU Team Unlimited coach, Campbellsville Coach Ginger Colvin, and of course Campbell County Lady Cougar head coach Jason Kitts.

Kitts shared special memories with the audience of coaches, family and friends as he coached Saylor ever since Hutcheson was a little girl in AAU ball.

Coach Kitts’s favorite memory of Saylor came off the court. When Hutcheson was half her age and size, she came into his office “with long tube socks to her knees,” extremely excited. She told Kitts, “Guess What!” Kitts said “What?!” to which Saylor answered back “I got saved yesterday!”

Coach Kitts, drawn to tears, continued to praise Hutch for her extremely hard work ethic, and how she always wants to be a better teammate and continues to strive to get better. Kitts said that “That is what it takes to be a Lady Cougar.”

Saylor Hutcheson is flanked by the voices that broadcast her games over WLAF, Josh Parker, left, and Clayton Carroll.

The draw to Campbellsville for Hutcheson was her love for the coaching staff, her soon to be teammates, as well as the great campus. While at Campbellsville, Saylor wants to study health science and desires to be either a dietician or a physical trainer, working in the sports field.

Saylor wanted to thank all of her family, cross country and track coaches, and basketball coaches who helped her along her journey to the point she is today. To show her gratitude, Hutcheson handed out personalized thank you notes to all those having a role, big or small, in her basketball journey.

Hutch’s main goal this season, unites with her teams’ goal. That being to hang a district championship banner on the wall at Brown Gymnasium. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/07/2024-6AM)
