JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Here’s a look back at Jacksboro in the early 1960s. At that time, the courthouse was having growing pains and needed more office space and the county needed a new jail.
So the county court approved the funding to build more office space and a new jail. Back then, the county jail was a separate building located where the election commission office is today. This image above shows the beginning stage of the courthouse annex.
This project included the annex and the new county jail which could house more than 60 prisoners when completed. Today the office section of the annex is still being used, but the old jail was destroyed in 2012. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/26/2024-6AM)
