KINGSTON, TN (WLAF)- It was perfect football weather on Tuesday afternoon as the Jacksboro Golden Eagles traveled to Roane County to take on the Cherokee Yellow Jackets in a rematch of last years’ state title game.
By looking at the Cherokee linemen, you would think Jacksboro was playing Roane County High School; but no, Cherokee was just that physical.
Other than a 40+ yard kickoff return by Jack Sexton, Jacksboro’s offensive was stagnant, getting shut out. The final score of the contest was 33-0 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
There was a bright spot, and that was that Jacksboro’s defense only allowed Cherokee 7 points in the second half, but it was too little too late.
Head Coach Cody Parker said that Jacksboro was just out-played up front. He said that Cherokee was much more physical. Parker said that it wasn’t all bad as his Eagles showed signs of promise; it was just a fact that Cherokee was that good.
Up next for JMS is the first home game of the season. Oak Ridge-Jefferson comes to Jacksboro to take on the Eagles on Thurs. August 29th at 7pm. Clayton Carroll and Peyton Ferguson send you all the live coverage on the WLAF Doyle’s Tire Shop Sports Network. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/21/2024-6AM)
