Supplies were distributed at both high schools on Monday, upwards of 600 students served

It’s easy to see why more than a hundred packbacks full of school supplies were handed out the first few minutes of the give-a-way.
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- “It’s a good thing for the parents and kids,” said Amber Wilson of La Follette. Wilson commented as she pulled away from Sheriff Wayne Barton and his department’s school supply give-a-way. It was held on the east side of Campbell High on Monday morning.

“My youngsters range in age from seven to 19, and they attend La Follette Elementary and Middle Schools as well as Roane State Community College, respectively,” said Wilson (above).

“It helps a lot,” said Patricia Sexton of Caryville (behind the wheel). She has a student at Campbell High and Caryville Elementary Schools. Sheriff Barton is about to hand Sexton two backpacks full of school supplies.
The give-a-way started at 9am, and the turnout started out quickly and continued at a steady pace. “We gave out a hundred backpacks full of school supplies over the first fifteen minutes,” said Barton.

The southside give-a-way ran from 9am until 11am and then at Jellico High from 1pm to 3pm on Monday. “I appreciate all the efforts of our staff and all those who donated to make this possible,” said the Sheriff.
Remaining school supplies will be distributed at Tuesday’s National Night Out at Seargeant’s Park in La Follette , according to Barton. “Next week, we’ll be visiting each school to see if they have any specific needs,” said Sheriff Barton.
“These supplies will go a long way,” said Wilson. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/06/2024-6AM)
