North 5th Street home fully involved when firefighters arrive


“This little fella was found safe long after the fire was out,” said LFD Chief Jimmy Pack. Four other dogs perished in the fire.
LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- UPDATE: Just before 11:30am, all off duty La Follette Firefighters have been paged out to the house fire at 304 North 5th Street and mutual aid from the Caryville Volunteer Fire Department was requested.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Fire struck quickly as residents of what was once the yellow home that sits near the corner of North 5th Street and West Iron Street ran for their lives. Two residents suffered burns to their arms and upper body.
It was around 10:30 Saturday morning when heavy, black smoke was spotted rising from near the North 5th Street underpass.

Within minutes, the home was fully involved.
Two of the residents who made it out of the fire with their lives told WLAF News that everyone did make it out of the burning structure. The last person out came running around the underpass side of the home cradling the dog that was feared lost in the fire. It was later learned that another dog was lost in the blaze. (UPDATE: Four dogs perished, according to Chief Pack.

Firefighters with the La Follette Fire Department swept the home and did not find anyone inside the residence.

Downed power lines, described as arcing by firefighters, were reported.
