LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- A welfare check sent LaFollette Narcotics Det.-Sgt. Noah Riggs to the area of South 4th St. and E. Virginia Ave. on July 3.
The check was concerning an 8 to 10- year- old female that was seen with a man in a white cut off tank top.
Riggs saw the man matching the description on the front porch of 605 E. Virginia Ave. When Riggs approached the man, he allegedly went in the home and closed the door.
Riggs eventually spoke with the homeowner explaining he was there for a welfare check. At this point officers advised Riggs that a male with a white tank top and three others were running on foot out the back door of the residence.
The men were told to stop for the police but continued to run, according to a report from the LaFollette Police Department. Officer Austin Tindell caught one of the men on E. Fir St, between South 8th Street and South 6th Street. Through dispatch officers learned the man identified as Michael Jason Martin had two warrants for his arrest. While patting Martin down officers allegedly found two empty baggies with a crystal like residue, a $1 bill folded with a crystal like substance weighing approximately .8 grams, a broken glass pipe with white residue and burn marks, a crystal like substance in the bottom of his pants pocket weighing 1.5 grams, a hand rolled cigarette with a green leafy substance and a glass pipe that had been thrown into the lawn.
LPD Lt. Matthew Forsyth was able to catch Anthony Dow Sammons on East Hemlock running on foot after a three block chase. After placing him under arrest and patting him down officers allegedly recovered a small pill bottle with two empty baggies with powder residue.
Det.-Sgt. Riggs caught Jody Ray Hickman after a two block foot chase in the back lawn of LaFollette Housing Complex. After placing him under arrest and patting him down officers allegedly recovered a baggie with a crystal-like substance in the baggie with approx. weight of 2.1 grams. Riggs learned through dispatch that he was barred from LaFollette Housing property in January 2023.
Back up Officer Hicks caught Timothy Mills Jr. after a two block foot chase.
Martin, 52, 714 Shaw Street, Clinton is charged with domestic assault, violation of probation (criminal court), resisting stop frisk halt search or arrest, mfg/del/sell schedule II controlled substance, possession schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sammons, 28, 4415 Pound Ck Rd, LaFollette is charged with resisting stop frisk halt search or arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hickman, 198 Hickman Lane, Jacksboro is charged with possession of schedule II controlled substance and resisting stop frisk halt arrest or search.
Mills, 36, 603 South 8th Street, LaFollette is charged with resisting stop frisk halt arrest or search.
