Multiple agencies battle a chemical truck fire, no one was injured

RIDGEWOOD, TN (WLAF) – UPDATE AT 8:40AM: The chemical truck fire is contained to the tractor, and the trailer has been shielded from the fire, according to Campbell EMA Director Jay Muncy. “The fire did not get into the trailer, so, we’re good,” said Muncy.

A truck hauling chemicals is fully involved on I-75 in south Campbell County at Mile Marker 130. This scene is almost to Rocky Top. The interstate is shutdown in both directions. Fire departments from Ridgewood, Caryville, Jacksboro and Campbell Rural Fire Service are battling the blaze. Highway 116 can be accessed at Exit 134 heading south and Exit 129 for north bound travelers to go around this mishap and return to the interstate.

The call of the fire came in to Campbell County Central Dispatch around 7:45 Thursday morning.

A footnote at 8:45am: After the interstate was closed, a wrong way driver jumped on the interstate at the Caryville interchange and headed south in the northbound lanes. A Campbell Sheriff’s deputy is headed to get the silver coupe stopped. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/30/2024-8AM)
