LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Longtime teacher and coach Jerry Dagley passed away last week and was laid to rest over the weekend. WLAF viewers and listeners share their memories.
“Jerry also became the golf coach in 1970 and 1971, not because he was a golfer, but we needed someone to drive us to the matches. He and Bob White took on that chore. Jerry raised money to buy us orange pants, white shirts and white golf shoes. We were not the best team in the region, but we were the best-dressed! I had him in math all four years of high school. He was a great Christian man and influence on all the young people. I already miss him and look forward to seeing him again one day. Prayers to Charlotte and the girls – I know how much they loved him too! We all did!,” said Dennis Powers.

“He will always live in our memories as the good good man that he was. I knew his family, as did my Mom and Dad. All of them are good people, a tribute to their parents. He and Charlotte raised good girls. Rest in your Heavenly Reward Jerry,” said Mitzi Lawson.
“This was the sweetest, nicest, smiling caring man ever. Prayers for your family and friends. You will be missed by many, Jerry Dagley. You will never be forgotten. RIP,” said Susie Wilson.
“What a blessing to have known this man, always smiling and ready to talk to us, to the family. Jerry has gone to meet his reward of so much. So sorry that you had to give Jerry up, but his memory will live on,” said Delores McCulloch.
“From the time I met him in 1967, he was a great and caring man. When I was a freshman at UT, he would call, and we would go watch teams practice. He always loved Charlotte. A wonderful person. RIP Coach. (PS: You are right, the 1969 team was his best!),” said Mike Hatmaker.
“Mr. Dagley was a great teacher and a very kind man. I loved being in his classes. Praying for his family,” said Carol Leach Slover.
“The team at Tennova Outpatient Therapy will surely miss this beloved gentleman. Such a gentle and spiritual man. Prayers for his family at this time,” said Belle Tuttle.
“Jerry will surely be missed by many, many friends,” Ron Meredith.
“Very sad to hear of Mr. Dagley’s passing. He was my Algebra II teacher at CCHS. I’ve always referred to him as one of the best teachers that I ever had. Prayers for his family,” said Cindy Hardwick Davenport. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/24/2023-6AM)
