CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The Town of Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met Monday night with a long agenda.

An ongoing issue with citizens not utilizing garbage cans for trash pickup was discussed. After a brief discussion, the board decided to let the street department make a list of violators when they are picking up garbage and turn the information over to the codes officer.

Smokin’ Holler Restaurant owners were present to discuss ideas they have to attract people to downtown. Some of the ideas presented were a fall festival, monthly car shows and when the playground is completed the possibility of doing movie nights.

Aldermen Josh Monday had two invoices from the Caryville Cares Playground project. The invoices totaled about $10,000 for work that has been done to get the playground ready for the installation of the playground equipment. The board voted to adjourn the meeting in session to meet with Brandon Johnson, chairman of the Caryville Cares Playground Committee, on Thursday night to discuss the playground and the invoices.

The police department wants to purchase a vehicle through the state contract. The vehicle is a 2023 Dodge Durango, the vehicle will cost $42,183, the board approved the purchase. Two vehicles will be sold on Govdeals.com, a 1999 F-150 that belongs to the fire department and a 2015 Dodge Charger belonging to the police department.

Ordinance 2023-04 amending the annual operating budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 was approved. The board discussed the audit for fiscal year 2022-23, the previous auditor is no longer available. After a brief discussion the board decided to speak with MTAS and get a list of auditors they can choose from.  

Purchasing a ditcher attachment for the Savage boom mower was approved. The board agreed to advertise for bids for paving and two bay doors for the fire department.

In final business the board approved Resolution 2023-03 to apply for the Public Entity Partners Safety Grant, this is done yearly. Two donations were approved, the first was to the Louie Bluie Festival for $3,000, next was a $1,500 donation to the 8th Annual Clays for Children Sporting Tournament. Two teams comprised of aldermen and policeman will participate in the tournament. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/11/2023-6AM)
