Abandoned home burns to the ground

In addition to battling a house fire, firefighters also tended to keeping nearby critical fiber and power lines cool to avoid any damage or outages to hundreds of homes.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Disaster was averted Monday night thanks to the quick and alert actions of firefighters with the Campbell County Rural Fire Service. A house that sat up close to Long Hollow Road, just south of Long Hollow Baptist Church, was fully involved when crews arrived around 10:30.

Once firefighters determined the home was abandoned, and there was not anyone inside, they continued battling the blaze. However, they also tended to keeping nearby critical fiber and power lines cool to avoid any damage or outages to hundreds of homes.

The smell of the fire lingers where this home was sat next to Long Hollow Road.

“The crews didn’t leave the scene until after midnight. The fire was melting the the fiber lines, and they were protecting the power lines and fiber lines on the nearby poles. The cable company told us we saved their fiber lines and a lot of money by keeping them cool,” said CCRFS Captain Daniel Lawson.

This structure was fully involved when firefighters arrived late Monday night.

There were no injuries, and there was not any electricity on the house. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/18/2024-6AM)
