JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Board of Education members met Thursday evening and approved the hiring of two different architect firms to assist with the athletic department projects at Jellico High School and at Campbell County High School.

Action items approved at Thursday’s BOE meeting included the approval of McCarty, Holsaple McCarty Architects Inc. to help design the turf project at Jellico High School and to hire Weeks Ambrose McDonald Architects fora the athletic project at Campbell County High School.

In other business, BOE members approved to advertise bids for janitorial supplies.

Director of Schools Jennifer Fields also gave a brief update on projects happening throughout the district.

Over spring the roof at the LaFollette Middle Field house was replaced. Once it is cleared out, maintenance will begin installation of a drop ceiling, painting, and replacing bathroom fixtures.

Additionally, the maintenance department is currently gathering quotes for a new roof on the press box at the LaFollette Middle School. The painting projects at Wynn School and LaFollette Middle School gyms will be bid next week.

“We are seeking bids for lighting installation at Campbell County High School Baseball field post season. It was too muddy to do it right now and it will be done post season,” Fields said.

She also reported that Homeland Security visits were completed.

“As with all our safety measures everything is in place and we are doing very well with our safety measures, but we are always seeking ways to make our schools as safe as possible,” Fields said.

The camera access has been granted to the 911 Center and the school district is also working on getting two-way radios for all the schools, according to Fields.

She shared the positive news that more students in the Junior Class at CCHS had scored 21 or higher on the ACT this year, surpassing any previous performance.

The Campbell County Board of Education has also been recognized as the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Month. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/05/2024-6AM)
