David E. Kirby, age 81 of LaFollette

Mr. David E. Kirby, age 81 of LaFollette passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2024, with his beloved wife, Patricia (Pat) Kirby by his side.  Son of Harlo & Elsie Kirby, he was born April 20, 1942, in Scott County, TN.  He was a member of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church.  He worked for Levi Strauss Company in Knoxville for over 20 years. He enjoyed being outside and working on various projects.  He loved UT sports and his passion for NASCAR.  He loved his grandchildren and with the help of his wife grew into a pet lover.  He always said that he knew where he was going and was right with God.   Although he will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain and can finally rest in eternal peace.  He was preceded to heaven by his father and mother, his son, Greg Kirby, six sisters: Marie Lowe, Katherine Silcox, Joyce Young, Jane Griffith, Freeda Lane, and Brenda Crowley, and four brothers: Leonard, Lesley, Cordell, and Randall Kirby, and his loyal fur babies.  

He is survived by his wife, Pat (Cordell) Kirby, his daughter, Michelle Chauncey and husband, Don, (Alexandria, VA) and his daughter Cindy Townsend and her husband, Tony (Chattanooga, TN); three grandchildren, Samantha Townsend, Hailey Chauncey, and Bryce Townsend; and his brother Wayne Kirby and wife, Sharon, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends to mourn his loss.

David was a deeply beloved husband, father, Papaw, brother, and friend.  His passing has left a void in many hearts.  He overcame multiple challenges, but this last challenge proved to be too much for his tired body to conquer.  He was a good man with a huge heart.  We can only imagine the celebration in heaven once he entered.  Until we meet again…….

Funeral Services are on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 7:00 P.M. at Walters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Ross, Rev. Sampson Ridenour, and Rev. Don Whited officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Tuesday before funeral services.   Family and friends will meet Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at Walters Funeral Home and proceed to Campbell Memorial Gardens from 11:00 A.M. Graveside Services and Interment.   The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to a wonderful cause and in memory of his nephew, Mike Starrett: Shop with a Cop, c/o Town of Jacksboro, P.O.
