Temperatures hit the 60s Wed. and remain above 50 degrees through Sat. afternoon

LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE) – Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall will occur this evening and overnight. This could produce some river and stream flooding across southern portions of the forecast area, but especially the southern Cumberland Plateau, including Campbell County and southern Tennessee valley.

Additionally, strong winds up to 50 mph are expected in portions of the east Tennessee mountains today, from roughly the Smokies northward to the mountainous areas of Greene and Unicoi counties.

For Thursday, periods of moderate to heavy rainfall will continue to move across the Plateau, including Campbell County, central and southern Tennessee valley, Smoky Mountains, and southwest North Carolina. Flooding of streams and creeks, roadway flooding, and flooding of low-lying areas is possible.

Another storm system will move across the Tennessee Valley and southern Appalachians this weekend bringing with it widespread rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Strong winds are also possible

across the far east Tennessee mountains and foothills on Saturday.
