LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Firefighters from the LaFollette Fire Department were on the job early on Tuesday’s cold, frosty morning. The day’s mission was to demolish an old house on Nevada Avenue. Authorities on site said the house was built around 1900.
The old structure was not quite willing to bite the dust requiring a team effort with LFD and LaFollette Public Works.
It took more than gentle tugs to raze this old house.
In the beginning, the old house put up a good fight. It was built with Oak and Poplar lumber along with years of seasoning. Chain saws struggled with some of their cuts against real 2 x 4s and 2 x 12s.
And here she goes.
The house began came down in small sections at a time.
By days end, only part of the rear section was still standing.
As some of the firemen from “B” Shift were leaving, Chief Jimmy Pack said, “We’ll be back tomorrow.” (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/13/2023-6AM)
They don’t build ’em like that anymore.
I new the sweet lady who once lived there and it was her mom’s house first people should have saved a beautiful historic house don’t build them like this I wished I could have seen it in its glory
I love history and any old building coming down is sad to me.
Nevada Avenue used to be beautiful street. I was raised there. A lot of the old homes are gone. Sad.
