LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Teachers make a difference in their students’ lives each and every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hard working educators with a weekly feature.

This week’s featured teacher is Kristi Hargis. She teaches first grade at LaFollette Elementary School and has been an educator for 26 years in “both public and private schools.”

Hargis is from LaFollette and attended East LaFollette Elementary School, LaFollette Middle School and Campbell County High School.

Kristi Hargis is Eagle Tire Pros teacher of the week. She teaches first grade at LaFollette Elementary School.

Her hobbies include traveling and writing. She is married to Ross Hargis and they have a son and a daughter.

Hargis attends Hope and Stand Church where she is involved in the pre-school ministry. She is also president of Beta Phi, the local chapter of the Tennessee State Organization of Delta Kappa Gamma International.

She attended college at Berea for her Bachelor’s Degree and Walden University for her Master’s Degree.

Hargis said she “was blessed to have excellent educators” on her own journey through school. These educators helped influence her own teaching career and methods.

“I was inspired by Dixie Crouch and Martha Wells. Their love of learning and making learning fun left an impression on me that I try to pass on to my students,” Hargis said.

She also gives credit to her parents for “inspiring” her with their “work ethic.”

One of her favorite parts about her job is “connecting with students and their families.”

“When students catch on and have that ‘a ha’ moment, I love seeing their joy of accomplishment,” Hargis said.

Another favorite part of her job is her “work family” who is a “source of strength and encouragement.”

“I am also blessed with supportive administration who go above and beyond their duties,” Hargis said.

Every Thursday, WLAF’s Charlotte Underwood features the WLAF – Eagle Tire Pros teacher of the week. That educator also receives a free oil change from Eagle Tire Pros.
