LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Back in the mid 1960s, just after Shelby’s Grocery Store moved from this building to its new store on First Street, Lafollette had a new dime store as they were called. National 5-10-25 was owned and operated by Orlando and Della Hunley along with their son Benton Hunley.

This was a very popular store back in the day, and at this time of the year, the toy section was a big thing. Back then, downtown had three like this to shop; National 5-10-25, Powell’s 5 & dime and Hutson’s Variety Store. In that time period, kids, along with mom and dad, would make a stop at all three as kids were putting together their wish list for Christmas.

Today, this building is part of Lindsay’s Furniture and Appliance. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/30/2023-6AM)

  1. How about Thompson’s United 5 & 10 cent store? It burned in the early to middle sixties. Also the Shelby 5 and 10 cent store.
