KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Campbell was that team last night, that team that South-Doyle let hang around. Because it did, the Lady Cougars left the Cherokees Gym with a come from behind 51-33 win.

The host ‘Kees built an early seven point lead and just would not give up the edge. The game was tied at 12 early in the second quarter, and Campbell finally grabbed the advantage, 19-18, on a Destiny Rutherford trey with 36-seconds ahead of halftime. South-Doyle answered with a three at 21-19. Saylor Hutcheson made one of two free throws followed by a Rutherford forced jump ball; Campbell’s possession. Hutch went for another one for two trip at the stripe as both teams left for the locker rooms after a ‘Kees missed heave deadlocked at 21.

Two blocked shots by Lacey Pemberton and a big three from Freshman Preslee Chapman highlighted the first half. A couple of fouls each on Bella Lester and Jayden Kitts were called early in the first half.

Campbell spotted South-Doyle a long three before outscoring the Lady Cherokees 15-3 in the third quarter. A Hutcheson three and two other threes from Carley Kitts helped Campbell build its lead to 12 at the end of the third frame, 36-24.

South-Doyle went dry more than seven minutes from the third quarter into the fourth as Campbell kept the hot hand. A left hand runner by Bella Lester lifted the Lady Cougars to a 49-27 lead before South-Doyle scored six of the next eight points.

Carley Kitts finished with 16, the game’s top scorer, followed by 11 from Hutch and six each posted by Destiny Rutherford and Bella Lester. Chapman ended with five while Pemberton finished with four points and five blocks. Jayden Kitts totaled two and Reagan Davis put in one point.
