LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – At last week’s City of LaFollette monthly workshop, Mayor Cliff Jennings told the council that he would like to bring back the Christmas Light Contest. Prizes would be $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. Yesterday afternoon at the monthly meeting, the council approved bringing back the contest and the prize amounts.

Three ordinances and resolutions were on the agenda for approval. The approvals began with Ordinance 2023-15 abandoning a portion of unopened street located within East Elm Street. Next was Resolution 2023-21 amending the 2023-24 budget. The budget amendment was to cover the cost of purchasing a pick-up truck for the recreation department. The truck will cost $43,165. Finally, Resolution 2023-22 allowing LaFollette Utilities Board to apply for an infrastructure planning grant was approved as were all of the other items.

Three promotions were approved beginning with promoting Christian Adam Southern to full- time patrol officer at salary of $36,664.78, Stephen Carroll to full- time patrol officer at a salary of $36,664.78 and promoting Cody Jones to a full- time sanitation worker at a salary of $32,163. All promotions become effective Nov. 11.
