JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It was Homecoming Night on The Hill at L. Hope Dossett Stadium on Friday. After the homecoming ceremonies, in which Bella Fleming was crowned Homecoming Queen, the Cougars, on a two-game losing streak, would try to bounce back with a win against the Daniel Boone Trailblazers.

Boone’s offense went right to work scoring a touchdown four minutes and five seconds into the game to take the lead 7-0. Campbell answered right back thanks to a Landen Hensley to Gabe St. John touchdown pass. St. John caught the pass on the south edge of the east end zone and tapped both feet in bounds before being shoved out of the end zone.

The Cougar defense, though, could not hold Boone back. The Trailblazer offense would gain a 14-7 lead and never lose the lead. Boone, a team that went 10 & 0 in last year’s regular season, led at halftime by a score of 30-14, and it would end the third quarter leading 37-14.

Campbell’s offense executed a seven-minute, 80 yard scoring driving capped by a five yard touchdown toss from Hensley to Timmy Gibson with 2:32 to play. For the game, Rylan Sanders was three for three on PATs. Boone headed back to the Tri-Cities with a 44-21 win to improve to 2 & 4.

Landon York was the leading rusher for the Orange and Blue with three carries for 25 yards. Keagon Cowan had a modest 2 carries for 6 yards, Hensley kept the ball 6 times for three yards, and Gavin Owens had one carry for 3 yards. Campbell, unlike other games this year, did not utilize a balanced offense. Campbell gained 319 out of its 356 yards through the air. Hensley went 20 of 34 with 3 touchdowns and an interception. St. John had five catches for 107 yards and a TD. Luke Lindsay had three receptions for 83 yards including a 67-yard touchdown. Gavin Owens made 6 catches for 73 yards. Gibson totaled 4 grabs for 58 yards and a touchdown, as well as Landon York, and Keagon Cowan having one reception a piece.

Campbell Co. falls to 2-4 on the year, with a 0-2 record in Region 3-5A. Campbell’s next opponent, Gibbs of Region 2-4A, has a 4-1 record. The Cougars face off against the Eagles Friday on John Reynolds Field. Les Martin and Brent Allen will bring you all the coverage over WLAF’s media outlets beginning at 6:30 pm, with kick-off being at 7pm. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/25/2023-6AM)
