CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The new northbound exit ramp on I-75 at Exit 134 will have three lanes, two lanes for traffic heading to LaFollette and one lane for Caryville bound traffic. “The completion date for this project is September 30. Currently, it appears that the contractor will finish on time pending any unforeseen delays to the project,” said Mark Nagi, TDOT Community Relations Officer for Region 1 (East Tennessee).

The description of the project is the grading, drainage, signals and paving on I-75 (U.S. 25W) at the U.S. 25W (S.R. 9) (MM 134) interchanges, and signal upgrades on U.S. 25W (S.R. 9) at S.R. 116 (L.M. 32.18) in Caryville.

“The completion date for this project is September 30. Currently, it appears that the contractor will finish on time pending any unforeseen delays to the project,” said Mark Nagi, TDOT Community Relations Officer for Region 1 (East Tennessee).

The contractor is J&M Grading Division, LLC, and the project cost is $2,976,489.00. The project began in 2022.

Nagi said signals will be upgraded at US 25W and SR 116. A longer exit ramp will be built to hold more traffic. Sensors are also being installed to determine when the exit ramp is getting near capacity that are linked to the signals allowing for less congestion on the off ramp. This will prevent traffic from backing up onto I-75. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/12/2023-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)

  1. So one lane of traffic coming off the highway and leading into LaFollette isn’t congested enough so they put two lanes turning right to go into LaFollette that’s going to be a disaster, when you are coming from Caryville towards the old road to lake City is hazardous with one lane and now they’re going to put two, that’s a disaster just waiting to happen
