CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Smokin’ Holler BBQ & Burgers is WLAF’s business of the week. From BBQ to burgers, Hillbilly egg rolls and homemade specials, Smokin’ Holler BBQ has something for everyone’s taste buds. In May, the business moved into the former Scotty’s Restaurant where they still offer the legendary Scotty’s Burger. This item was kept on the menu as a “community staple.” The restaurant has also just announced its new hours of operation Tuesday through Saturday, beginning Aug. 15.

The community is invited to attend Saturday’s special of smoked burgers and the monthly “Pickin’ and grinnin’ event from 6pm to 8pm.

Smokin’ Holler BBQ offers private catering and event catering, as well as delivery services. Coming in September, it will also be adding a meal prep service of “healthier, high protein, low carb meals.”

They also offer a 15 percent discount for veterans, law enforcement and first responders.

The business is owned by (left to right) Crystal Orick, Billy Orick, Jeremy Peavley and Mandi Peavley.

The restaurant is family owned and operated by Jeremy and Mandi Peavley and her cousin Billy Orick.

The Peavleys founded the business in 2020 and last year added Orick as a co-owner.

“My husband and I always loved to cook, and we both came from a background of people that love to smoke food,” Peavley said.

When the pandemic hit, the pair found themselves at home, smoking meat out of a tiny smoker under their carport.

“We started trying out new recipes, smoking stuff. We would take food to our family and friends who were on lock down due to Covid. Everyone loved it and encouraged us to start a business. The first event we did was at the Campbell County Shows off Festival and it just ballooned from there. People even started requesting catering jobs,” Peavley said.

Smokin’ Holler has something for everyone on the menu.

They knew they wanted to open up a restaurant in a physical location, but couldn’t find a building. Then after learning Scotty’s was closing, they “jumped on the opportunity, opened in May, and it’s been going amazing ever since.”

The restaurant serves up original recipes and much more than just BBQ. Smash burgers, Hillbilly egg rolls, smoked burgers, brisket, homemade specials and more can be found on their ever growing menu. Currently, they cannot do fried foods, as they are having fryers installed, but these will soon be returning to the menu.

The second Saturday of the month from 6 to 8 pm is Smokin Holler BBQ’s “Pickin’ and Grinnin’ night.” They set up a tent, turn the lights on and “anyone in the county is welcome to come down, play, sing, talk or just listen.”

Coming in September, through a collaboration with Raging Axes, Smokin’ Holler BBQ will be holding a fundraiser BBQ cook-off contest, with funds raised going to host a community Thanksgiving dinner for those in need. Currently Smokin’ Holler BBQ is taking contestant sign-ups for the fundraiser. It will be capped at 20 entries.

“We love our community and owe our success to their support, and we want to give back. Other businesses and individuals have come together to help us with this and we’re so appreciative,” Peavley said.

She also wanted to thank all of their customers for their support.

“Without them, we would not be here,” Peavley said.

Smokin’ Holler BBQ is located at 159 Main Street in Caryville in the former Scotty’s Restaurant building. New hours of operation are Tues. through Thurs. 12:30-7pm and Fri. and Sat. 12:30-9 pm.
