CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – A caller to Central Dispatch reported that he saw a man jump in front of an 18-wheeler on I-75 Wednesday morning.

The call came in to dispatch at 4:18 sending Campbell County Sheriff’s, Caryville Fire and Police, THP and Campbell County EMS units to the scene at Mile Marker 139.6 on the northbound side. That’s less than two miles south of the Huntsville-Oneida exit.

Reports are that the semi pulled off onto the shoulder of the road and could not immediately locate the pedestrian.

Deputies walked more than a mile or two of interstate searching. The driver of the big rig stated that it came over the guardrail leading searchers to possibly think it could also have been an elk.

At 5:07am, a Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy radioed dispatch saying “I found him.” The body was still in the process of being recovered at 7:30 am as officials were preparing to use a Stokes basket to retrieve the body from about 15 feet down from the guardrail.

Officials located a car along the interstate not far from the scene of the incident. The name on the Michigan driver’s license found on the victim matched the name on the registration of the car, a 2005 Pontiac.
