LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – The challenge to keep yourself safe from the heat and humidity tops the list of priorities today and this week. Lower 90s and sunshine are the order of the day for Tuesday before daytime highs Wednesday through Friday hit the mid-90s, about 10 degrees above average.

In addition to the dangerously hot conditions, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has issued a Code Orange Health Advisory for Campbell County and the Knoxville area through midnight tonight (Tuesday).  A Code Orange Air Quality Alert for Ozone means ground level Ozone concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. The general public is not likely to be affected. Active children and adults, and people with a respiratory disease such as Asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

Key Messages:

1. Dry conditions continue for most areas through Friday.

2. Hot temperatures through the week with heat index values exceeding 100 in the central and southern TN Valley Tuesday through Friday, possibly over 105 in spots on Wednesday and Thursday.

3. Chance of rain returns Saturday with a weak cold front, along with slight cooling Saturday and much cooler behind the front Sunday.
