LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Tuesday afternoon, the LaFollette City Council met and announced the winners of the most improved property for July and August. The winner for July was Triple A Boat Storage, and the winner for August was LeAnn Hall and Herbert McGhee of Ideal Florist.

Two board appointments were made, John Long was appointed as a board member on the LaFollette E-911 board. Andy Kitts was appointed to the Beautification Board. An event permit for Coolidge Ridge Missionary Baptist Church was approved. The council approved opening a new checking account at Peoples Bank of the South for general fund special escrow account.

Four promotions were approved. Tim Frazier was promoted to full-time entry level fire fighter with EMT at a salary of $33,095.54. Shane Tielman goes to a full time Sergeant at a salary of $39,964.08, while Timothy Collingsworth is promoted to a full time Sergeant at a salary of $39,964.08, and LeAnn Helton is now a full-time dispatcher at a salary of $29,993.60.

Four resolutions were approved including Resolution 2023-10 authorizing the City of LaFollette to participate in the PEP Risk Management Pool (Safety Partners) Loss Control Matching Grant Program. This is done yearly. Resolution 2023-11 providing in lieu of tax payments from LaFollette Utilities, Resolution 2023-12 amending the 2023-24 budget and Resolution 2023-13 adopting formal policies and procedures for housing rehabilitation were approved. The resolution pertains to the newly awarded $600,000 housing grant awarded to the city. Ordinance 2023-11amending the City of LaFollette court fees had a first reading.  The court fees are currently between $121 and $126, the ordinance doubles the fees.
