LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Plans for the development of the City of La Follette’s 18 and a half acres were delivered to City Hall on Tuesday afternoon. “This council (and mayor) is one step closer to reality with this development on the four lane and the Depot Street project, too” said City Administrator Stan Foust.
The master plan was developed by ARDURRA of Knoxville.
“A hotel is already committed, for sure,, and now we need to find us a really good restaurant,” said Mayor Cliff Jennings. The hotel is in the Marriott family of hotels, according to Vice Mayor Wayne Kitts.
The development will consist of a boulevard coming north off the four lane and on through over to Independence Lane. On the east side of the entrance will be a shopping center and then hotel with the restaurant across the street from the shopping area and restaurant.
Elsewhere on the more than 18 acres will be three youth baseball fields, three youth soccer fields and a full size soccer field. “These will all be turf fields, and there will also be two tennis courts,” said Vice Mayor Kitts.
“The City will move forward with its part. This is well needed for the community,” said the mayor.
“Nothing has been discussed on a start date. I will likely be asked to put the project on a workshop for discussion in the months to come,” said Foust.
“It’s a privilege to have a council to move La Follette forward. I’ve been the mayor for many years and several terms, and I’ve never had a council work together and with me like this,” said Mayor Jennings (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/28/2023-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
Why not put another business and or a Boys & Girls Club on this property? Goodness 18 acres will be three youth baseball fields, three youth soccer fields and a full size soccer field and 18 acres will be three youth baseball fields, three youth soccer fields and a full size soccer field and they will all be turf fields, and there will also be two tennis courts? I just don’t understand.
Is this not the same mayor and city council who was so concerned a few months back about all the available land in the city, being used up for storage units and not for businesses in our city.
