LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- A call of a man standing in the road last Thursday at Old Long Hollow and Longfield Roads sent Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Robby Cobb to investigate. The caller alleged the man was pretending to shoot at passing vehicles with a handgun, but the caller couldn’t determine if he was armed or not. When Cobb arrived he saw an older white male standing in a cut out off of Old Long Hollow Rd. The man appeared to be talking to himself with his hands concealed in a jacket, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

Deputy Cobb said there was a report that he was standing as if he was shooting at vehicles but no one could tell if he was armed. Cobb patted the man down and did not locate any firearms. The man identified himself as Gregg T. Coston and told the deputy that he was attempting to hitchhike into town but no one would stop. Deputy Cobb asked Coston if he was from the area, and he reported that he had lived here for 13 years but had spent the last year jumping from couch to couch. While Deputy Cobb was talking with Coston, he noticed he had a newer looking leaf blower and a saw on the ground. When asked if they belonged to him, Coston said he got them from a friend the night before.

Coston was able to provide few details about the friend except for an area on Long Hollow Rd. where he lived. Cobb left Coston with Corporal Jordan Huskey while he drove to the address and spoke with the homeowner and his wife. The woman said Coston had allegedly broken into their home the night before and stolen the items. She continued that she had kicked him out because he had allegedly become aggressive. Law enforcement was not notified of the break in.

Gregg Thomas Coston, 65, 1037 Long Hollow Rd, LaFollette was charged with theft of property under $999.99.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 04/07/2023- 6AM)
