NEWCOMB, TN (WLAF) – A Pioneer man clocked at nearly three times the posted speed limit is facing additional charges. Charles D. Baird, 51- years- old, was allegedly clocked at a speed of 89 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone, according to police.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Shayne Wilburn was patrolling Highway 297 on special assignment on the afternoon of July 15 when he saw a blue Ford F-250 diesel truck traveling in the opposite lane of travel at a speed of 89 mph heading directly toward Wilburn’s cruiser, according to a report from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

Wilburn said Baird got back into his lane and passed by. The deputy turned his patrol car around and pursued the blue truck. Based on the report, Baird continued driving, and after a couple of turns, he stopped the truck and turned it off on Old Standard Hollow Road.

Baird, 51, 9075 Highway 297, Pioneer, was arrested on charges of driving while suspended, revoked or canceled driver’s license, speeding, evading arrest, reckless endangerment and failure to maintain lane.
