LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – Postmark LaFollette Arts, Culture and History Center plans a full day of fun for LaFollette’s July 9th Celebration.  The Center will open at 10: 00 a.m. to showcase the talents of the ARTShine Co-op Artisans who will be on hand with a variety of hand crafted and hand made goods.  The Co-op will be open from 10 a.m. to 5p.m. for your shopping convenience. 

Postmark will also host the first preview of our original exhibit, Footprints and Imprints, developed through a S.H.A.R.P. grant from Humanities Tennessee.  The exhibit follows the people and events that have influenced the development of our culture in Campbell County.  From the Footprints of the earliest people who lived in the area to the Imprints of large world events and small family farms, the exhibit is an overview of where we began and who we are today.    The public is invited in to view Footprints & Imprints free of charge on July 9th, before it begins touring our community in a variety of places and through our schools.

Members of the Board of Directors of Postmark LaFollette Arts, Culture and History Center will be out in front of the building meeting and greeting people and talking about what the Center has to offer. 

The following events will take place throughout the day. 

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Center will be open to view the exhibit

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ARTShine Co-op open with a variety of artisans on hand to showcase their goods

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest.  A people’s Choice Ballot will be available throughout the day.  Three winners will be chosen, First Place $50, Second Place $30 and Third Place $20. The sponsors of the Chalk art winners will receive their sign with Ribbons denoting the People’s Choice winner.

10 a.m.  Local Artist John LeMaire will be doing caricatures of people, based on space he may be out front or in the lobby 

11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.  The Ghost of Irene Miller, original Postmistress of the LaFollette Post Office will give tours of the building and share its secrets. 

11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Postmark Jamboree Musicians, Tony Branam, Joseph Hensley and Samantha DeBusk will be moving throughout the streets playing their instruments.  Stopping by each of the Sponsors for Postmark’s Chalk Art and Scavenger game. 

Noon until we run out:  FREE – Mayfield Ice Cream Stix

1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Scavenger Hunt –The following businesses will sponsor the Chalk Art and  Scavenger Hunt.  Lindsay’s Carpet and Paint, Aah Spa, Wenders Furniture and Where my Heart Leads Thrifty Boutique, Common Ground Coffee Shop and Smith’s ACE Hardware.    Postmark will give participants the answers on a printed sheet.  Participants must match their answers by getting the questions from these businesses.   

Each of the sponsors will have balloons outside of their business with a sign saying they are Postmark Sponsor.  Postmark Jamboree musicians will be stopping at each of the Scavenger Hunt sponsors to play in front of their business through this time frame.  Participants will need to be back at the Center by 3:15 with their matching questions in order to win a prize. 

3:30-4:00 – Sidewalk Chalk Art winners awarded their ribbons and prize funds.  The Winners of the Scavenger Hunt will be given a free Tee shirt and a variety of coupons from local businesses.
