The FLOOD WATCH for Campbell County continues through Friday afternoon.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Wet, windy and soggy conditions are with us for the next 3 hours as a flood watch that began Wednesday night runs through lunch time on Friday. Expect chilly rain and strong wind gusts today, tonight and through the first half of Friday. There’s a slight chance of thunderstorms, and some of the stronger storms will produce heavy rainfall. After a brief break in rainfall Thursday afternoon and evening, a cold front will bring more rain late tonight with additional rainfall amounts expected here in Campbell County. With already saturated grounds, most rainfall will become runoff and flooding could be an issue.

Except for a chance of some Saturday night snow showers, the weekend will be fairly quiet as February winds down.

…FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON…

* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

* WHERE…Campbell County along with portions of east Tennessee, including the following areas, Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Knox, Morgan, Roane, Scott TN and Union. Portions of southwest Virginia, including the following areas, Lee, Scott VA and Wise.

* WHEN…Through Friday afternoon.

* IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…With saturated soils and high streamflows, the region is vulnerable for flooding. A slow moving boundary will bring long duration rain to the watch area through Friday morning. Additional total rainfall of 1 to 3 inches will be possible across the watch area.

 PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…You should monitor later forecasts from WLAF and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
