RUTLEDGE, TN (WLAF) – The new season begins this week for the Campbell Cougars and Lady Cougars as the district tournament will be played at the John R.W. Brown Gymnasium. The regular season ended Friday night with a pair of tough losses against Grainger on the Grizzlies homecourt. Grainger won the girls game 60 to 22 while the Cougars lost a tight one 79-75. Lacey Pemberton had six for the Lady Cougars followed by five from Cora Browning and four each from Emma Brandenburg and Bella Lester. Rachael Cowan added three.
Nate Walden was tops for the Cougars with 24 points to go along with 20 from Zac Brady. Devin Jones totaled 11 markers while John Long added nine as Spencer Boshears chipped in seven. Two points each came from David Adkins and Bryson Horton.
It’s on to the District 3-AAAA basketball tournament at John Brown Gym. The Lady Cougars (17 wins & 9 losses) play West Wednesday at 7:30pm, and the Cougars (13 wins & 12 losses) play the winner of the Karns-Central game on Saturday at 7:30pm. Both games will be radio only broadcasts with Josh Parker’s call heard over AM 1450 and FM 100.9 as well as 1450wlaf.com and WLAF-TV 12.
