JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Teachers make a difference in their students lives each and every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hard working educators with a weekly feature.

This week’s featured teacher is Monica Burgan. She teaches Chemistry and Advanced Placement Chemistry at Campbell County High School and is in her 22nd year as an educator.

Campbell County High School’s Monica Burgan is the Eagle Pro Tires teacher of the week. She teaches Chemistry.

Burgan is from Campbell County and is married with a daughter. She started out at Tennessee Technological University pursuing a Chemistry degree.  While there she worked in a biochemistry lab at the university.

After receiving her degree from Tennessee Technological University, she added a Masters degree in Educational Leadership and an Ed.S in Curriculum and Instruction.

During her spare time at Tennessee Technological University Burgan tutored her roommate and friends in their chemistry-related courses from nursing school.

Realizing how much she enjoyed doing this helped inspire her career in education.

“Through this experience, I realized my passion for helping others learn about Chemistry,” Burgan said. She also had several teachers of her own that inspired her to teach as well.

“I had such wonderful teachers along the way who also inspired my career in education,” Burgan said.

Her favorite part of her job is seeing her students get excited about Chemistry.

“The best part of my job is seeing students get excited when they finally understand a concept they have been struggling with. The ‘lightbulb moment is truly magical!”

Every Thursday, WLAF’s Charlotte Underwood features the WLAF – Eagle Tire Pros teacher of the week. That educator also receives a free oil change from Eagle Tire Pros.
