JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Eagle Scout and Campbell County Cougar Stewart Thacker will soon be joining the LMU Railsplitters. Thacker signed college scholarship papers on Wednesday morning to attend Lincoln Memorial University where he will study Computer Science and run track.

His fellow track team members, along with his fellow scouts were in attendance at the signing in the CCHS commons to cheer him on. 

Thacker received a four year academic scholarship from the university through the Corner Stone Program. Attending LMU has been a dream of his since he was a small child.

According to his father, Stewart has wanted to attend LMU since he was in elementary school.

“I’m so excited to be given this opportunity, and I appreciate everyone’s support over the years,” Thacker said. 

According to Thacker, he “wouldn’t be where he is today without the support of his family, friends, teammates, fellow scouts and coach.”

Stewart will be participating in the 100, 200, 400-meter sprints, as well as the long jump and high jump. 

Stewart’s parents, Chris and Chrystal Thacker said they were extremely proud of their son.

“He’s worked hard to get here, and we couldn’t be prouder,” Chris Thacker said. 

Campbell High Track Coach Chris Shouse said he was proud of all the hard work Stewart had put in running track over the last two years. 

“Stewart loves to run, and he has a motor that doesn’t stop. He’s not afraid of the hard work, and he’s put so much effort in. We’re proud of him,” Shouse said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/16/2021-6AM)
