JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County High School’s Josh Parker is WLAF’s teacher of the week. Parker teaches United States History and Government, and he is in his sixth year of teaching. According to Parker, his inspiration to become a teacher was due to several important educators he had over the years.
“I had several former educators that were instrumental and sowed the seed of teaching in me. Janice Sweat, Fred Grantham, Bobbie Heatherly, Ann Higginbotham, Jamie Wheeler, Rick Claiborne, Katherine Ayers, and MJ Douglas were a few of the great educators that influenced me heavily,” Parker said.
His favorite part of teaching is celebrating the achievements of the students. “No matter what the accomplishment is, it’s fun to be a part of something that’s positive in a time you hear so much negativity. And often times, the kids teach me more than I could ever teach them,” Parker said.
He said this past year has been great despite all the chaos and changes wrought by the pandemic and that everyone had “made the best out of a tough situation.” “Seeing our kids battle through the adversity they’ve faced from COVID this past year has been amazing to see,” Parker said. “They’ve come to class, done everything we’ve asked them to do, and we’ve been able to have as close to normal as we can get. What they’ve done this year and how they’ve handled it has been remarkable, and I commend them for it!” (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/29/2021-6AM)
