JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – After four years as Mayor of the Town of Jacksboro, June Forstner attended her final meeting as mayor last night.

June Forstner attended her final meeting as mayor on Thursday evening. The veteran public servant is not seeking re-election.

Forstner decided to not seek reelection in the 2021 election which is coming up on Saturday. She served as vice mayor of the town for 12 years, before being elected mayor. When Forstner was asked what she was going to do when she retired, she replied that she was going to spend time working in her home and her yard.

In April 2019, Westview Terrace Apartments caught fire and sustained damage to about 50 percent of the building. The Myers Street building has been vacant since the fire. Jeanne Higdon, owner of the property, appeared before the Jacksboro Board of Mayor and Aldermen last night requesting an order of demolition be issued by the board. She stated that the town has an ordinance that prevents reconstruction of structures that 50 percent of the value has been damaged, and it must be demolished by the owner.

This apartment complex caught fire in the early morning hours of April 29, 2019.

After a brief conversation, the board decided to table the matter until the May meeting when Codes Officer Gary Byrd could be present and the board could make an informed decision.

The board agreed to have Matt Widener fill in for Codes Officer Gary Byrd while he is off work. Widener currently does mechanical and plumbing inspections for the town and is certified in building inspections.

Ordinance #123 modifying the Jacksboro Municipal Code plant protection criteria and local limits had a second reading. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation require the Caryville-Jacksboro Utility Commission to make regular updates to plant protection criteria and local limits, this ordinance fulfills the requirement.

Springfield Subdivision, Teague Lane and Mt. Perkins have water issues that may need to be addressed. The board agreed to have Caryville Jacksboro Utilities Commission (CJUC) look at the issues. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/02/2021-6AM)
