NASHVILLE, TN (WLAF) – It was the talk for weeks at Vanderbilt Medical Center. When asked was there a moment that stood above all the others, Sara Lloyd responded immediately. “It was on Jan. 23,” she said.

Lloyd’s husband, Zach, is in rehab now though his journey to this stage of recovery began with a positive COVID-19 test in October. He and his family have endured many dark days, highs and lows since that positive result including a double-lung transplant. Hear comments from Zach HERE.

Sara and the children, 10-year- old Lily and 6-year old Titus, were headed to Nashville to wave to their husband and father from the parking garage before he underwent the transplant. Children are not allowed on the MICU floor where Zach was being treated. But in this unique situation, an exception was made unbeknownst to Zach.

“I knew they were close, because a couple of nurses were standing in the parking garage. While I was looking out the window trying to see the kids, I heard Titus say “Hey, dad.” I was shocked,” said Zach.

“We were able to hold hands and share hugs. It was my first time seeing them since October,” added Zach.

This visit not only lifted Zach’s spirits, but the spirits of all throughout Vanderbilt Medical Center.

“The staff at VMC saw God move through Zach, and it kept hope alive for the staff,” said Sara. “What I’m doing is making a difference,” noted Zach.

Sara pointed out that the visit from the kids may have been a bigger event for the staff than for Zach. “They’ve not been getting a lot of good news making this the talk around the hospital for weeks,” said Sara.
