Sheriff’s Sergeant Mike Owens saw a car last week swing out from North Tennessee Avenue onto West Central Avenue failing to stop at the traffic light.  In doing so, Owens was nearly hit, because he was heading west on Central in La Follette and was forced all the way into the turn lane to avoid being struck by the car.  Owens had to slam on his brakes and swerve.  The female driver that nearly hit Owens ended up on the sidewalk. Owens continues in his report detailing that the car veered away from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department cruiser across two lanes and the shoulder and hit the sidewalk near Peoples Bank of the South.  Owens was able to get the car to stop, and it did just up the road in the middle of North 5th Street.

Christina Lacy Gwen Jones

Owens soon learned that the person he pulled over was 28-year old Christina Lacy Gwen Jones of South Indiana Avenue in La Follette. Jones had trouble getting her car door open and told Owens that she could not stand up according to the report.  The sergeant noted that Jones admitted to being under the influence of medication prescribed to her.  For Jones safety, Owens did not request a field sobriety test though EMS did perform a blood draw.

Jones faces multiple charges including DUI, driving while suspended and possession of a schedule V controlled substance. She is free on a $5,500 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, December 20.  This was Jones third booking into the county jail.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/14/2018-6AM)
