Campbell and Clinton Amateur Radio Clubs invite you to get out and get on the air
CARYVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- The Campbell County Amateur Radio Club (C.C.A.R.C.) along with the Clinton Amateur Radio Club (C.A.R.C.) invites you to attend the Amateur Radio Relay League (A.R.R.L.) annual field day. Starting this Saturday, June 28, at 1:00 p.m., in Cove Lake State Park near the old swimming pool area.
This is an event hosted by ARRL to show the capabilities of the amateur radio operator in the event failure of other communications occur or the need for communications in an area otherwise not serviced by other forms of communications. Everyone is invited to attend; you do not have to be a licensed amateur radio operator to attend and participate.
If you are interested in becoming an amateur radio operator; you can attend one of the club meetings held monthly on the second Tuesday of the month starting at 7 p.m. in Campbell County at the Roane State Campus. On the fourth Tuesday of the month in Anderson County at the Anderson County Rescue Squad building starting at 7 p.m., is when the Clinton Club meets.
Other sponsors/ participants of the event are the organizations previously mentioned along with Cove Lake State Park, Campbell County Emergency Management Agency, Roane State Community College, Anderson County Rescue Squad, and WLAF.
The primary purpose is to test the group’s ability to plan operations that can be effective for an entire twenty-four-hour period, including operator endurance and adequate numbers of operators for a shift operation. The secondary purpose is to demonstrate the technical proficiency of the station that has been quickly constructed for the contacts: In theory, a better station will be capable of emergency operations in dire conditions; such as designating a safety officer for the station or incorporating auxiliary power capabilities.
Any licensed amateur radio operator, non- licensed operators with an interest in amateur radio as long as they are with a licensed amateur radio operator. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/27/2025-6AM)
