LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- LaFollette Police Sergeant Anthony Mahar answered the call for a welfare check at 2502 Jacksboro Pike, LaFollette. Sgt. Mahar received a call from off duty LaFollette Police Officer Justin Painter who reported there was a person in the driver seat of a car passed out.
When the sergeant arrived, he approached a black 2017 Nissan Maxima in parking lot of a medical clinic near Dossett Road. The Nissan was parked half into the roadway and halfway in a parking spot. He noticed a female slumped over the driver seat, and he knocked on the window and the front windshield of the vehicle but was unable to get the female driver to wake up, according to a report from the LaFollette Police Department.
At this point, Sgt. Mahar checked the door and found it unlocked. He opened the door and yelled at the woman who still did not respond. He then grabbed her by the shoulder and shook her several times. She finally woke up, spoke with the sergeant, and started reaching out of the car like she was grabbing something, but there was nothing to grab. When Sgt. Mahar questioned what she was doing, she stated that she was trying to grab some gummies so she could give them to someone.
Sgt. Mahar reported that he could not make out who she said she was due to her speech being slurred. Mahar noticed a black bag in her lap with a pill bottle in it. He asked the woman, identified as Tiffany Marie Broyles, to exit the vehicle and ask her what she had taken. She responded that she had not taken anything.
A check of Broyles driver’s license through LPD dispatch revealed her license was revoked with several prior offenses. Sgt. Mahar told Broyles to not start off by lying to him, and she allegedly said that she was going to be honest and that she had taken a couple of Neurontin pills, based on the report. While the sergeant was talking with Broyles, he noticed her eyes were blood shot. Broyles was given a series of field sobriety tests, to which she allegedly performed poorly.
Broyles, 43, 117 Meredith Road, LaFollette was charged with schedule III possession, driving under the influence (DUI) with three or more prior connections and driving while license suspended/cancelled/revoked. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHSED-04/28/2025-6AM)
