Issues with some playground equipment at Caryville Cares Playground being addressed
CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- The Town of Caryville is working toward making improvements with technology. Susan Moser with GAMA Network Solutions LLC spoke to the mayor and board of aldermen at the regular monthly meeting on Monday night. Moser presented options of what GAMA can provide for the town to improve technology at the municipal building.
The town was previously utilizing Hammrtech, but the company has gone out of business, according to town officials. The board has previously talked about having a website for the town. Monday night, City Court Clerk Angelita Monday presented information about two companies to assist the town in establishing a website. The first company was Trademark Advertising, who will charge $3,000 up front with an ongoing monthly fee of $425. The second company was Civic Plus who will charge $5,000-$7,000 up front with an annual fee of $4,000-$5,000. Mayor David Chambers requested the board look at other town’s websites and see what they like about them. He requested the aldermen make notes about them to discuss at a later date.
Lisa Crumpley Codes Enforcement/Building Inspector for the town spoke to the board about issues she is currently facing. Crumpley told the board to more effectively do the job of codes she needs them to adopt the Tennessee Slum Clearance Act. The act would give the town the power to declare a property unfit, then have the property cleaned up or torn down. This would also allow the town to place liens on the properties it cleans up. The board was unsure if it had adopted the act or not. The board agreed to have the town’s attorney look into the matter.
Last month at the regular monthly meeting the board and mayor discussed the $500,000 CD the town has at Builtwell Bank that was scheduled to mature on Feb. 11. The board decided to put the $500,000 back into a CD. Alderman Vickie Heatherly was tasked with calling Builtwell Bank to see if she could negotiate a better rate. The board voted to use the bank with the best interest rate. The board then approved investing $1.1 million in the Local Government Investment Pool. The money can be accessed at anytime without penalty.
The Caryville Cares Playground opened in April 2024 and has started to see issues with some of the playground equipment. The board discussed an issue with the area at the swings and a broken merry go round. Public Works Director David Muse told the council he had spoken with the company who did the equipment for the playground. Muse reported that the company reports the swing issue can be fixed with a type of mat underneath the swings. During a discussion about the issues, questions arose about the warranty on the equipment. The board discussed appointing someone on the board to contact the company and agreed that Aldermen Josh Monday should contact the company. The board discussed the fact that Monday had previously been the liaison for the town when the park was being constructed.
The board approved leasing a new copier for the library for five years at a cost of $158 per month, this price includes toner.
Amending the annual operating budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2024 and ending June 30,2025 in state street aid for $3,500 for repairs at the crosswalk near the Pilot Travel Center at exit 141 was approved.
