CASA and Deerfield locals help area kids have a merry Christmas

By Charlotte Underwood
LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Thanks to the efforts of local citizens in partnership with Campbell County’s CASA Program, around 50 kids had a merrier Christmas last month.
According to Campbell County CASA Executive Director Jan Jones, Christmas meals, gifts and blankets were provided for 49 children and their families.
“Thanks to Anna and Terry Heath of Deerside Market, Walter and Margie Duvall of Deerfield Vacation Rentals, and Michelle McCart of Dash and Go 3 for all the hard work they do in making sure our kids are sponsored at Christmas,” Jones said.

According to Jones, “all throughout the year this group of people organized fundraisers and collected money throughout the community to make sure all kids are provided with Christmas gifts”, and they also furnish each family with a complete Christmas dinner. This year they provided Christmas for 49 children.
Jones said she wanted to extend another special thank you to Chuck and Sherry Compton of Chapman Hill Winery, who also gave generously to CASA kids for the holiday season.
“Thanks to their support of our program and generosity they provided each child with a nice warm blanket as well as a stocking stuffed full of lots of candy and surprises,” Jones said.

She also issued thanks to Pam Fagin and Carol Lyons, Phil and Christine Shafer, along with Scott and Krista Engle who helped with shopping and wrapping gifts, along with Leslie Edwards.
The “magic of Christmas” was evident as gifts, meals, and blankets were delivered by CASA staff at Christmastime.
“Unfortunately those who donated are not able to see the joy they bring to these children but believe me as we deliver and we see the eyes light up of these kids and hear from caregivers such as grandparents, etc. that express their heartfelt thankfulness for these gifts I know it would bring much joy to every person that is involved in making this happen,” Jones said.
CASA Director Jones said a special thank you to everyone who was involved in “making Christmas special for the kids and supporting Campbell County children.”
Support of CASA “makes a difference in a child’s life” and allows the non-profit organization to recruit and train volunteer advocates to be a voice in court for the abused and neglected children that have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care.”

“On behalf of our staff, volunteers, and board of directors, we would like to thank everyone who helped. Without the help of individuals, businesses, and volunteers, we would not be able to serve the abused and neglected children in our community.”
