CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- At last night’s Town of Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting winners for the Christmas Light Contest were announced.

First place winner was Jason and Brittany Tackett earning the $300 cash prize; second place, Martha Tackett ($200) and third place, Donald Ray Cross ($100). There were seven entrants in this year’s contest.

Alderperson Beth Lawson updated the board on the Safe Routes to School at Caryville Elementary School. LaFollette Utilities is currently working on putting power to the school zone lights and the lights should be working within a few weeks.

The police department has a new full-time officer, Aaron Johnson. He began working with the department on Sept. 23, 2019. He has completed his 90 day probation period, is a certified police officer and working with the Campbell County Drug Task Force, according to Caryville Police Chief Brian Keeton.

In the final business of the night, the board gave permission to the fire department to declare some of its outdated radios as dilapidated surplus property. This will enable the department to dispose of the radios. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED- 1/14/20- 6AM)
