TOP PHOTO: The new Norris Lake Sports Complex is so, large, 40,000 square feet, WLAF’s Charlie Hutson had to send Eagle I way up and way out to capture a photo of the entire facility.

This basketball floor came from ETSU at Johnson City. This photo was taken from the center of the facility, and you can see three of the basketball courts to the left.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The Norris Lake Sports Complex officially opens on Saturday, and you’re invited to tour this most impressive facility during the Open House, 9am-5pm. Private owners Mark and Linda Proffitt encourage you to bring your basketball and sneakers and enjoy the day on one of the six indoor basketball courts. WLAF’s Charlie Hutson shares his photo gallery HERE.

The Norris Lake Sports Complex is unmatched. In its day, 1970, the La Follette Recreation Center on South 9th Street is the last such similar structure that could even be mentioned in this conversation. It was a federally funded project including a full gym and outdoor swimming pool.

Looking to the right, you see the other three basketball courts. And, yes, this is a floor once used by the Orlando Magic. Some of the greatest basketball players to ever play the game graced this court in its day.

Aside from basketball, other sports, such as volleyball and baseball, will be played in this massive facility. The 40,000 square feet facility sits along Old Jacksboro Pike between the La Follette Church of God and Pyro Shows.

Here is the main entrance to the Norris Lake Sports Complex.
